About sticking to Koh Samui?

Tout plaquer pour Koh Samui ?

Last night, I watched M6 and its Capital program. A theme already seen, on those French who are sometimes left at the end of the world, settle or for an adventure. There among them assets, for annuitants, or still more than one million installed for example in Thailand, to Morocco, to the Portugal or pensions (new!) in Malaysia. The motivations are diverse: escape the greyness and stress, have a better train of life (for those who leave France with a capital), try an entrepreneurial adventure in another environment… Myself to horse between two countries and long expatriate I know fairly well the question.

On M6, we saw including a couple who obviously all plated and lives now installed in Koh Samui, Thailand, with their two children. This couple said leaving social security. Rather than accede tthe CFE (Caisse des French, abroad) he obviously preferred insurance private « 1 euro ». I am not sure what this choice or advice to offer to those who have the project to leave and here are four points that I often remind my clients: -only people in good health to the subscription, with a proper BMI, may consider a blanket by a private insurer. They then enjoy safeguards equivalent or superior to those offered by the CFE and sometimes at a lower cost. For those who are already sick, private insurance is not equivalent to those offered by the CFE solutions. Is there a moral in? Yes, certainly… but I’m not here to talk about it. -is the selected private contract life? Fifteen years pass quickly… This is final, you will not go in France? Then check that your insurer, he will not leave you after 65 years… -how much will the insurance cost at age 65… or 90 years? Ask out of curiosity the annual premium for an elderly couple… Are you seated? -What will happen in case of disability? We think never because this happens to others…

‘Quit the social security system’ may, for some, make part of the symbolic breaks with the « motherland », there are therefore instead of think twice. In this case, I would have rather advised our family expatriate in Thailand to join the CFE within three months of his departure and to subscribe to good « complementary CFE » as well as a contractmedical repatriation. It will incorporate also some guarantees « foresight » (death and disability) for the couple and the « civil liability » Privacy abroad. I am however more reserved about the desirability to continue to contribute to retirement by distribution of the CFE when it made the choice to go abroad: contributions are (in my opinion) for a pension whose contours are blurred… A good life insurance (in Luxembourg, for example) will help to gradually build a capital or an annuity while optimizing the transmission of capital in the event of death.
